Abstract

Between 1970 and 2010, Montevideo underwent profound sociocultural changes that impacted couple relationships. This study, based on interviews and focus groups, explores how historical factors, such as the dictatorship and the return to democracy, along with phenomena like the expansion of technology and the advancement of feminism, transformed expectations and affective dynamics. The results show that couples not only responded to these changes but also acted as agents of the same transformation, redefining their bonds according to new individual values and shared life goals.
