BALANCE AND PERSPECTIVES: URUGUAYAN THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITIES AND PSYCHOANALYSIS

Abstract

This article examines the emergence of therapeutic communities in Uruguay, contextualizing them within the sociohistorical and cultural framework in which they arose as caregiving devices. It analyzes their evolution over time, highlighting the most significant moments. It emphasizes the uniqueness of these communities and their alternative character to traditional care modalities. Furthermore, it explores their links with psychoanalysis and the role of certain psychoanalytic approaches in the treatment process they develop.
