Abstract

Christopher Bollas’s book The Infinite Question refers to the question that therapists ask themselves silently while listening to the pain of others and their own. Infinite questions are the complex questions that accompany our practice, working in uncertainty, complexity, and in connection with the other, with the psyche as a tool. In discussion with others, this book motivates this article, which reflects on free association as a fundamental technique, critiques of non-orthodox psychoanalysis, and the figure of the therapist as a person with their own history and complexities within the analytic pair.
